William "Bill" Starnes Obituary

  Bill N. Starnes of Easton, PA, passed away on May 29, 2020, at the age 94, at Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem.   Bill leaves behind his beloved wife Joan after 30 years of marriage, and a large group of friends and family that loved him.

  Bill was born in Davis, OK, and in the 6th grade the family moved to Neshohe, OK, where he rode a horse to school.  One year later the family moved to Woodward, OK, and in then in Bill’s junior year of High School, Bill left to join the US  Marine Corps, and was part of the Iwo Jima invasion.  After his discharge from the  Marine Corps, he used his VA scholarship to attend Oklahoma State University. While there,  he joined the ROTC, and graduated with a degree in Industrial Arts.  He then enlisted in the US Air Force as a Lieutenant during the Korean War.  He was discharged from the Air Force in 1953, and eventually became an Occupational Therapist, working at St. Luke’s Hospital.

  Bill met Joan while Square Dancing in 1990, and they married soon thereafter.  They are members of Grace Church Bethlehem on Locust St., Bethlehem.  Off and on for 10 years they shepherded church members on mission trips to Mexico with the Presbyterian Church USA of Bethlehem.  They eventually moved to the Highlands of Glenmoor in Easton, PA, and found many wonderful friends and great memories.

  Survivors: wife Joan; sons David Starnes (Betty) of Texas,  Jim Starnes (Pauline) of Nevada, Tim Starnes (Gaylawn) of Utah, Drew Smith (Patti) of Hellertown; stepsons  Charles Simons (Cathy) of Florida, Jim Simons (Karen) of Florida,   Alan Simons (Lori) of Tatamy; stepdaughter Linda Camerino (Nelson) of New Mexico, and Brenda Simons of Bethlehem; 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

 Services:  A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a future date.  Current Funeral Services are private due to the public health mandates, and are entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.  A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com
