William Schachter Obituary

William G. Schachter Jr. (Bicycle Bill), 67, died 17 of January, 2021 at his home in Bethlehem, PA in the company of his wife, Carole, their children, Brian and Rachel, and Louie, who he also considered a son. In addition, Bill is survived by his sisters, Laurel Hanzlik and Sharon Devey, his son Jason and family, and many nieces and nephews and their children as well as extended family.

Bill Schachter was born March 5, 1953 to William G. Schachter Sr. and Ethel Marie Schachter (née Mason) in Pittsburgh, PA. He and Carole (née Devey) met at Falcon Camp in Carrollton, OH, and moved to Bethlehem with their two children in 1992. Bill received his Associate Degree in Electronics Technology at Penn Technical Institute, Pittsburgh, PA. He worked at several television stations including WPGH 53 in Pittsburgh and WFMZ 69 in the Lehigh Valley, but his final and favored occupation was that of househusband. He particularly enjoyed tending to the dogs and the firewood. Music was Bill’s passion, which was especially fostered by the community at Godfrey Daniels, his jam buddies, Blessing In Disguise, and Edgeboro Moravian Church, where he was a longtime member. Bill was a gifted writer of prose, poetry, and music enjoyed by many. His debut album, Lookin’ For Paradise, was released 12/31/2020.
