Thomas Gimbor, Sr. Obituary

 

Thomas M. Gimbor, Sr., 93 went to his eternal rest on January 14, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late MaryEllen (O’Connor) Gimbor, who passed away October 22, 1994. 


Born in East Mauch Chunk (Jim Thorpe), PA. on September 15, 1928, the son of Alex Gimbor and Mary (Kuhla) Gimbor. 

 


Tom signed onto the Jersey Central Railroad in 1942 as a fireman and continued working on the railroad for 42 years, retiring as an engineer in 1984. He served his country in the United States Army, 1949 to 1951 at Fort Dix New Jersey operating the Ammunition Trains. 


He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker’s Church, Orefield, PA where he volunteered his time and many talents for many years. He was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors, but most of all he loved his wife and children and dedicated his life to his family. 


He will be dearly missed by his four children, Linda Patterson, Donna Capuano (John), Thomas M. Gimbor, Jr., Regina Bortz (Dale); grandchildren, Sheila Baab, April Goetz, Colleen Evert, Desire Morley, Brandon Bortz and Christina Bortz. Also his 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. His sisters Rose Marie Kochmar and Theresa Hudanich, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his brothers, Joseph Gimbor, John Gimbor and James Gimbor and his sisters Margaret Huegel and Eleanor McKewan. 

 


Services: A Mass of Christian Burial for immediate family only will be held at St. Joseph the Worker’s Church. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date for extended family and friends, announcements will be sent. Tom's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Funeral Home, Fountain Hill. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

 


Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker’s Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, PA 18069.
