Nevin Mindlin Obituary

 

Nevin Mindlin, 76, died in Ft. Myers Florida on November 1, 2023. He was the son of Morris and Lillian (Schwalb) Mindlin.  Nevin was born and raised in Bethlehem and graduated from Liberty High School.  After high school Nevin attended Georgetown University, majoring in foreign service, before joining the Navy. In the Navy he rose to the rank of Petty Officer Second Class and left the Navy in 1970.  He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Goddard University in 1973. Nevin started his career working as a legal assistant for his father.  After working with his father, he moved to Harrisburg and worked in public policy and community relations for a few years before becoming a Researcher for the PA House of Representatives Republican Caucus in 1979. He became the Executive Director of the Republican Caucus Research Staff in 1981. Governor Ridge appointed him as the Director of the Office of Policy Planning and Development for the PA Department of Labor and Industry in 1995.  The PA Bar Association hired Nevin as their Legislative director in 2004.  In 2008 Nevin ran for Mayor of Harrisburg and spent the time following the campaign working to organize and help underserved communities in Harrisburg.  He founded, with his partner Jean, the non-profit Covenant Community Corporation, which supported numerous community organizations and neighborhood projects including Camp Curtin Community Neighbors United; Camp Curtin Preschool; Harrisburg Thriving Together; Communities Practicing Resiliency of Greater Harrisburg. Nevin was very active in the Harrisburg Jewish community.  He served on various boards including the Greater Harrisburg Jewish Federation and the Yeshiva of Greater Harrisburg.

 

He is survived by his Partner Jean Cutler, His three sons: Josh and spouse Maggie, Avi and spouse Elisa, Hillel and spouse Christine; his grandchildren: Mikayla, Morgan, Vivienne, Lila, Brooks, Jeremy, and Nathan. 

 

The funeral will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 9:30am at Congregation Brith Sholom, 1190 W. Macada Road, Bethlehem, PA 18017. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
