Joseph "Joe" Raposo Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Raposo, passed away peacefully in his his home, on Monday, January 29, 2024. Born on September 10, 1937, in Newark, NJ, Joe's journey through life was one of commitment, service, and joy.


He pursued higher education at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he became a proud member of Sigma Nu fraternity, forming lifelong friendships as well as meeting his beloved wife, Eleanor. After college, Joe answered the call of duty, serving his country in the United States Air Force, where he exemplified the values of honor and discipline.


Upon completing his service, Joe embarked on a successful career as an accountant, a profession where his meticulous nature and strong ethical standards served him well. Joe started his own accounting firm in 1980 and worked doing accounting work well into his 80s. He dedicated many years to his craft, earning the respect and trust of all who worked with him until his well-deserved retirement.


Joe's life was not solely defined by his professional achievements; he was a man who thrived on giving back to his community. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary, where he served as treasurer, contributing his financial acumen to the service of others. His love for his heritage was evident in his involvement with the Portuguese American Club in NJ, where he enjoyed celebrating his roots and culture.


A man of faith, Joe was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Emmaus, where he found spiritual solace and camaraderie. His commitment to his faith was a guiding light throughout his life, providing comfort and purpose.


Joe's passion for life extended to his love of sports. An avid fan of the Giants and the Yankees, he shared his enthusiasm and team spirit with all who knew him.


Above all, Joe was a family man. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Steven Raposo and his wife Leni A. Teixeira of Bridgewater, NJ, David Raposo and his wife Carol of Tewksbury, NJ, Mark Raposo and his wife Wendy of Wisconsin, and Douglas Raposo of Bethlehem and his grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary, Anthony, Dylan, Logan, Gillian, Matthew, and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Raposo.


Services: A Funeral Service will be held at 11: 30 A.M. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway, Fountain Hill, PA 18015 where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10 A.M. until time of the service. Burial with Military honors will take place at Fountain Hill Cemetery. A memory tribute may be placed at 


Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts Music Department, 321 E 3rd St, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
