Joseph C. Gatta, 84, of Fountain Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Szabo) Gatta. Born in Fountain Hill, he was the son of the late Anthony and Beatrice (Berardo) Gatta. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Ursula Catholic Church, Fountain Hill. Joe lovingly served the community of Fountain Hill most of his career as a police officer where he retired and continued his responsibilities as the code & zoning enforcement officer into his 70’s. He was a true “Hiller” and truly loved the borough of Fountain Hill. Joe started his career as a Barber, owning his own shop during his early years. He always taught his family to be true to themselves and follow their hearts but to stay strong in their beliefs and most importantly, always make time to laugh. Within Joe’s family he was always known for his quick wit and “Joe Gatta-isms” which continue to make everyone laugh today. He was the very best father, husband, brother, most amazing grandfather and great grandfather. Joe loved with his entire heart and truly enjoyed his time with his family. Rest easy “Pop the Cop”.
