Jerry Hausman Obituary

Jerry Hausman, of Bethlehem and Boynton Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital on Thurs., Jan. 3, the day after his 89th birthday, surrounded by family.
Jerry was a smart, kind-hearted and funny husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, beloved by the many who knew him. He will be remembered for his love and commitment to his country, his community and, most important to him, his family.
Born in Bethlehem, the son of the late Max and Helen (née Friedman), Jerry graduated from Fountain Hill High School (class of 1947) and Muhlenberg College (class of 1951), where he was a member of the ZBT Fraternity. An American patriot, he honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a 2nd Lieutenant and was awarded a Medal of Commendation. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans. Jerry was the Owner and President of Metro Design Center for 65 years. Throughout the community, Jerry was known for his service, philanthropy and compassion. He was a longtime member of Congregation Brith Sholom in Bethlehem, where he served on the Board and as President for the congregation. Jerry was instrumental in the building of the new Synagogue on Macada Road, and he also served as the chairman of Chevra Kadisha. While living in Boynton Beach, he served on several boards in the community as well. Jerry enjoyed golfing and was an avid Eagles fan, but the most important thing in Jerry's life was his family.
Jerry shared 63 years of loving marriage with, and is survived by, his wife, Florence (née Snyder). He is also survived by his son, Kevin Hausman (and his wife, Mary Ellen) of Upper Saucon; his daughters, Dr. Cheryl Hausman (and her husband, Daniel Silverman) of Philadelphia and Laurie Braunstein of Bethlehem; his grandchildren, Kara (and her husband, Robert), Emily (and her husband, Joseph), Zach, Katie, Dan, Jake, Andrew, Lizzie, Max and Jesse; and his great-grandchildren Ruthie, Liam, Ben-Ami and Noah. Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Sidney and Monroe.
Services: A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sun., Jan. 6, at Congregation Brith Sholom (1190 West Macada Road, Bethlehem, PA, 18017), where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Brith Sholom Cemetery. Jerry's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home (500 Linden Street, Bethlehem, PA, 18018). A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
