Janet Helen "Dolly" (Allender) Gruver

Janet H. “Dolly” (Allender) Gruver, 85, of Allentown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was the wife of the late John R. “Jack” Gruver, who passed away in 2003.  Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late James J. Allender, Sr. and Grace M. (Smith) Allender. Dolly was a graduate of Southern Lehigh High School. She was a Girl Scout leader, active church volunteer wherever she lived and worked in the cafeterias at Southern Lehigh and Lake Wallenpaupack. She was the proud proprietor of the Cock A-Doo Ice Cream shop in the Poconos.  Dolly enjoyed playing cards, golfing, reading and traveling the world.

Survivors: She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Brenda Tarulli and her husband Joe of Bethlehem; sons John M. Gruver and his wife Tracy of Coopersburg and Matthew Gruver of Bonita Springs, FL; brother Kenneth C. Allender and his wife Marie of Coopersburg; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Dolly was preceded in death by her brother James J. Allender, Jr.

Services: A Funeral Service will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Main Street Hellertown, PA 18055 where the family will receive relatives and friends from 1 P.M. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery of Hellertown. Dolly’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
