Imre D Kovacs 9/10/40 – 2/10/23
Imre D. Kovacs of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Bethlehem Pennsylvania, left this world on February 10, 2023. He was 82 years old. Born in Csikvand, Hungary, he was the son of Imre and Karolina Kovacs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Daralee “Lee” C. Kovacs. Imre had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing. Whether you knew him as “Imi” or “Jim”, he was well known for his ability to fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbors. He retired from the Bethlehem Steel Company after 30 years, was a certified Volkswagen specialist, and the owner of Kovacs Garage in South Bethlehem in the 60’s -80’s, followed by a second business, Kovacs Pump Repair in the 1990’s. Prior to his retirement in Florida, Jim was an active member of the Hecktown Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors: Imre is survived by a daughter, Donna M, and her husband James J. Ford, Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew and Jason (Ford) and Alexander and Nicole (Kovacs), and by a great grandson, Ryker J. Ford. He was pre-deceased by his son, James “Jimi” D. Kovacs.
Service: A celebration of life will be held graveside as Imi and Lee are being laid to their final rest together at Hope Memorial Cemetery in Hecktown, Pennsylvania at 10:00AM Friday, September 29, 2023. The family requests that any flowers or notes be sent to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem PA.
