Gerald "Jerry" Leighty Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” T. Leighty, 88, of Bethlehem, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at his residence. He was the widower of Marjorie (Addis) Leighty. Born on December 18, 1930 in Uniontown he was the son of the late Thomas and Ethel (Womer) Leighty.

Jerry attended California University of PA where he earned his Bachelor’s in Industrial Arts and Montclair State University where he earned his Master’s. He began his career as an electronics teacher before being promoted to Vice Principal at Morris Hills High School, Rockaway, NJ and then as Principal at Old Farmers Road Elementary School, Long Valley, NJ, and Long Valley Middle School, Long Valley, NJ. Eventually retiring as Superintendent from Warren County Vocational and Technical School. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Radio Control Society. Jerry was a lifelong member of Vanderbilt United Methodist Church, Vanderbilt, PA. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. 

SURVIVORS: Jerry will be lovingly missed by; daughter, Lynnell Miller and her husband David of Laurel, MD; daughter-in-law, Holly Leighty of Bridgewater, NJ; sister, Joan Orndoff of Pittsburg, PA; grandchildren, Amy Roop, Jamie Leigh Roop, Stephanie Leighty and Thomas Leighty. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie; son, Craig Leighty; sister, Elaine Hughes.
