Frances Zamiskie Obituary

Frances J. (Pohida) Zamiskie, 87, of Hellertown, passed away peacefully on Friday July 16, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg, with her devoted family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Edward M. Zamiskie, Sr. who passed away in 2011 after 54 years of joyful marriage.

Born and raised in McAdoo, PA, Fran was the ever-energetic daughter of the late John and Frances Pohida, and she loved her upbringing in her small hometown. Fran and Ed met at the Jersey Shore, married in 1957 and moved to Hellertown where they started their beautiful family and became faithful members of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church.

As a self-employed professional seamstress, Fran enjoyed also teaching sewing classes while raising their children. Later, Fran worked for senior centers in Bethlehem and Saucon Valley where she organized activities and memorable bus trips for friends, neighbors, and some very special nuns. One of her proudest endeavors was a non-profit senior citizen organization she started with Ed called “Young and Restless” and all money raised was donated to local charities.

Fran was the most generous and loving “Babcia” to her five grandchildren and treasured her time with them.   She was such an important part of each of their lives, and prayed with them, offered life advice to them, surprised them with thoughtful gifts, took them to Carvel for ice cream outings, and face-timed with each of them to check in and to talk about the most recent Phillies game.

Fran’s faith was strong and she so loved her adoring family.  She celebrated her Polish heritage with amazing food and family customs, and she brought grace and blessings to all she met.

Survivors: Fran will be faithfully remembered and cherished by her son Edward M. Zamiskie, Jr. and his wife Gina of W. Caldwell, NJ; daughter Carol Jean Walters of Bethlehem; brother John Pohida of Mechanicsville, VA; grandchildren Charles and Rebecca Zamiskie and Elliot, Grace and Margaret Walters and her   great grandson Edward. She was preceded in death by her loving daughter Frannie Zamiskie, sister Carolyn McCloskey and son-in-law Todd Walters.
