Dorrie V. Graul

Dorothy Voorhis Graul of Allentown died on May 13th, 2023 of complications of esophageal cancer. She was the wife of Terry Allen Graul for almost thirty years until his passing in 2013. Together they raised two wonderful daughters: Katie (Kevin) and Jess (Jordan). Dorrie was the daughter of Henry Martyn Baird Voorhis and Dorothy Burgess Voorhis. She was the big sister of Henry (Cindy), Marcia (Will), Steven (Grace) and their “other brother” Andre (Danielle) of Belgium. Through her loving siblings, she was an aunt to a plethora of nieces and nephews. Dorrie grew up in Pelham, NY and graduated from Pelham Memorial High School (Class of 1974) with highest honors.

After graduating from Wellesley College (Class of 1979) in MA with honors and a degree in developmental psychology, Dorrie moved to the Lehigh Valley. She had a varied career with the common thread of helping others: manager of group homes for people with developmental disabilities, fast food manager, paid and volunteer positions for the American Red Cross, and administrative positions for the local Thermo King dealership.

Dorrie was an active volunteer, most notably with her church (First Presbyterian Church of Allentown). In addition to being ordained as both an Elder and a Deacon, she was a Stephen Minister and Stephen Minister Leader, Sunday school teacher, “Candlemama”, and coordinator of the Usher Guild. Dorrie was also a volunteer for Wellesley and the Cat Shack, from where she adopted her current feline children.

Dorrie felt blessed with the care she received from her birth and church family and friends during this journey with cancer.

Service: A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM Monday, May 22, 2023 in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church, 3231 W. Tilghman St.,Allentown.  Family and friends may call from 1 to 2:00PM Monday, May 22, 2023 in the narthex of the church.  Internment at Lakeview Cemetery in Essex, NY will take place in August.  Arrangements are being handled by the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem
