Charles Cantrell Obituary

Charles A. Cantrell, 72, of Easton, passed away at home suddenly on Monday, May 25, 2020. Born in Salzburg, Austria, he was the son of the late Charles Cantrell, who was a Master Sergeant in the U. S. Army and Louise (Istók) Cantrell. He was a graduate of Starkville High School in Mississippi. Charles honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam, while serving on the USS Intrepid. He was of Catholic faith. Charles worked as a regional technology specialist for Varityper in Memphis, Tennessee from 1971-1983, then worked for Varityper at their East Hanover, NJ location until 1993. Later, he worked for Mendham High School in Mendham, NJ and West Morris Regional High School in Chester, NJ, where he was in charge of the IT Department for many years until retiring. Charles was self taught in anything he pursued and could repair or create anything he set his mind to. He could competently work on everything from electrical to plumbing to construction to welding. He also enjoyed cooking, barbecuing, working on cars, landscaping his homes and anything involving trains. He had a passion for rebuilding steam locomotives and volunteered his skills in Scranton (Steamtown.) He had a huge love for animals and always had dogs and cats as part of his family.

Survivors: He will be lovingly remembered by his former wife Susan (Robinson) Cantrell of Easton, his brothers John and William Cantrell of Memphis, Tennessee and his daughter Stacey M. Cantrell of Portland, Maine, who he was very proud of for recently opening her own chiropractic practice in March of this year.

Services: Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Charles' services are entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. An online memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any of the following charities that were dear to Charles: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Smile Train, Shriners Hospital and the ASPCA.
