Bernard Story, Jr. Obituary
Bernard J. Story, Jr., 91, of Bethlehem, passed away Friday November 26, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest. He was born in Bethlehem, the son of Bernard and Cili (Judt)Story. He was the loving husband of the late Eleanor Derrico Story for 59 years before her passing in 2010.
He was a 1948 graduate of Liberty High School and he attended University of Pennsylvania from 1964 to 1967. After briefly working at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation he joined the Bethlehem Fire Department in 1952. Bernie was appointed Bethlehem’s first Fire Commissioner in 1976. He retired in 1979 and then joined Western Electric until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.
A good athlete in his youth, he played basketball and softball in the Lehigh Valley City Leagues, was the Second Flight Champion of the Bethlehem City Golf League, and was particularly proud of his hole-in-one. Bernie dedicated his life to his family and will be sadly missed.
Survivors: son Bernard Story and his wife Peg of Emmaus, and daughters Barbara Campione and her husband Richard of Whitehall, Patti Kish of Ocean View, Delaware, and Louanne Mooney and her husband Francis of Memphis, TN; eleven grandchildren, Christopher, Katie, Toni, Michael, Fran, Gina, Allison, Alisa, Niki, Alexandra and Danny and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers William and Frank and his sister Cecilia Kelleher.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday December 3, 2021 at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass in church. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery. Bernie's arrangements are entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com
