Arthur M. “Tudo” Guerrieri Obituary

Arthur M. “Tudo” Guerrieri, recently of Fort Lauderdale, FL and formerly of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family and short time hospice team at 93 years young. He was the loving and devoted husband to his high school sweetheart Mary D. Guerrieri, with whom he shared over a 70-year love story. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Michael and Rocchina (Simonelli) Guerrieri. Arthur was a graduate of Liberty High School, where he lettered in varsity football and basketball. Upon graduating from Liberty, Arthur enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951-1955 on the Navy Destroyer Ship USS Isherwood (DD-520) during the Korean War. Arthur continued his education at Moravian College on the GI bill and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Business education. He was a Teacher and Business Department Chairperson at Saucon Valley High Senior High School for over 30 years until retiring. While teaching, Arthur was a dedicated coach of Track & Field, Cross Country, and Golf. His leadership and dedication led to his teams to qualify for the State finals. While attending the state finals in Penn State, he would often be mistaken for Joe Paterno, and Arthur would just smile and wave. Arthur was a local favorite instructor at Yosko Park in Bethlehem, often referred to as the “Yosko Park Dad”. Arthur went on to be a PIAA Track & Field Official for 35 years and had a passion for sports and was an avid golfer.

Arthur was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, Bethlehem and local religious organizations as well as the United States Polka Association and the International Polka Association. He was a devoted volunteer for Boutique at the Rink and at Musikfest for over 25 years. He spent many fun and memorable times polka dancing at Festplatz and at polka festivals across the country while traveling with his son-in-law Wally’s polka band. As an enthusiastic traveler, Arthur was well respected and admired wherever he went. He met & befriended hundreds of people and could chat it up and joke with everyone. One of his favorite trips, was reestablishing family ties with relatives living in Orsara di Puglia in the province of Foggia, Apulia, southern Italy. Above all, his proudest achievement was marrying his wife and raising two extraordinary daughters. Most recently, Arthur and Mary were crowned Liberty’s legendary couple at the school’s 100th Anniversary dedication.

In the words of his beloved daughter and best friend, “My father was such an inspirational man, glass was always half-full, he was making plans up till the end,” said his daughter, Maryrose. “His secret to a long and happy life was simple…good music, happy friends and positive thinking.”

Survivors: In addition to his loving wife Mary, he will be remembered by his daughter Maryrose Guerrieri and her husband Wally Dombrowski and feline grand-kitty, Coco. Arthur was preceded in death by his daughter Rita Guerrieri and siblings Domenic, Michael, Carmen, Anthony, Incoranata “Gertie” Brita, Virginia LaSorsa, Violet Wood.
