Obituary

William R. Smith, affectionately known as Bill, aged 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family while in the care of St. Luke's Hospice House. Born to the late William D. and Althea (Schmick) Smith on April 16, 1948, in Allentown, he lived a life marked by dedication, service, and the joy of simple pleasures.

A graduate of Emmaus High School's class of 1966, Bill furthered his education at the US Army Transportation School. His commitment to his country was evident as he honorably served as a Helicopter Mechanic in the United States Army. After his military service, Bill dedicated much of his professional life to his work as a journeyman Boilermaker until retiring.

Bill was a man who found happiness in the earth's beauty, often tending to his garden with a passion that was only rivaled by the love for his family. He leaves behind his son, William C. Smith and his wife, Kelly; his adored grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, and Carter; loving siblings, Donald Smith and his wife Linda, Ann Edmonds and her husband Steve, and Dolores Ziegenfus and her husband Scott, along with his sister-in-law Joan Smith. His legacy also includes many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Theresa M. Smith, and his brother Dale Smith.
