Obituary

William Schuyler Goss, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania with his loving wife by his side. Born on December 13, 1940, in Huntingdon, PA, Bill's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit of adventure and a deep love for his family and country.

Bill is survived by Marsha A. (Agre) Goss, his devoted wife of 60 years, and their two daughters, Susan Taylor and her husband Cameron of McLean, VA, and Cindy Miller and her husband Don Legath of Whitehall. He was a proud grandfather to Jackson, Mackenzie, Bennett, and Grayson. His brother, Frederick Goss, and his wife Christy of Pittsburgh also mourn his passing. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Schuyler Goss and Ruth (Snyder) Goss.

A true son of Pennsylvania, Bill carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life. He graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor's degree and served in the ROTC, setting the stage for his future career as a naval aviator. His service to the country was exemplified by his time as a pilot in Vietnam, where he demonstrated courage and dedication.

After his military service, Bill continued his passion for flying as a pilot with TransWorld Airlines (TWA), where he navigated the skies for 30 years until his retirement in 1998. His work was not just a job but a calling that allowed him to explore the world and connect with people from all walks of life.

Bill's interests painted the picture of a man who embraced life's many facets. An avid outdoorsman, he cherished hunting trips to Wyoming, where the landscape spoke to his adventurous spirit. At home, he found solace in gardening and fishing, nurturing both plants and relationships with the same care. The family farm held a special place in his heart as a touchstone for his heritage and a playground for his grandchildren.

A voracious reader with a keen interest in history, Bill could often be found with a book in hand, lost in tales of bygone eras. His love for sports was evident as he cheered on his favorite teams, Penn State, the Eagles, and the Phillies, through wins and losses alike.

Travel played a significant role in Bill's life, creating memories that he and Marsha treasured. They journeyed to Santa's Workshop to witness the ethereal beauty of the Aurora Borealis, soared over Russia in the cockpit of the plane, marveled at the Colosseum in Rome, and stood in awe at the Acropolis in Greece. Their travels through the Mediterranean were not just trips but chapters in their shared story.

Bill's legacy is one of love, service, and adventure. He touched the lives of many, whether through his steady hand at the controls of an aircraft or his gentle presence at family gatherings. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose and joy.

As we bid farewell to William "Bill" Schuyler Goss, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on the world. His journey may have come to a close, but his spirit continues to soar in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Bill will be dearly missed, but the memories he created will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with this remarkable man.
