Obituary

Heaven just got a lot more rowdy as BIGASH is free of pain and feeling feisty as he entered the pearly gates on July 11, 2026. He was born on February 15, 1947, in Fountain Hill, PA, to the late John Ashton and Grace Sullivan.

Thomas shared 57 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joan, building a life together filled with love and devotion.

Thomas dedicated 30 years of his working life to Bethlehem Steel, where he served as a foreman in the shipping yard. He took great pride in his work and earned the respect of those he worked alongside. To take a break from work, Tom would take his family to Cape Cod to spend time with his family that resided there for yearly vacations. After retirement Tom would escape the winter cold to visit his Florida family Ed and Jean Barcewicz

Outside of work, Thomas had a knack for finding a good deal and enjoyed shopping for things on sale. He treasured his fishing trips to Upstate New York and Canada, where he found peace among the outdoors and made memories that stayed with him for years. Closer to home, he spent many evenings on his back porch, radio in hand, following the Yankees game by game. Family meant everything to Thomas, and he made a point of frequently taking road trips to Pittsburgh to visit his son. Whether he was spending time with loved ones, casting a line into the water, or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home, Thomas lived a full and contented life.

Thomas will be remembered for his warmth, his loyalty, and the deep love he held for his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Ashton and Grace Sullivan.

Surviving are his wife, Joan Ashton (McGee); his son, Thomas Ashton; his sisters, Mildred Unger, Carol Winslow, and Mary Jean Barcewicz and her husband Ed; and his close friend, Linda McBride.

Thomas will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
