Obituary

Subhash Chand Gupta, born on December 29, 1939, in Sujanpur, India, passed away on May 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Palmer Township, PA.

He was the beloved son of Sahib Singh and Rameshwari Devi, and he lived a life marked by devotion, dignity, and quiet strength. Subhash was a loving husband to Satish Gupta for more than 57 years, and together they built a beautiful life centered on family, faith, and mutual respect. He was a devoted father to Dr. Amit Gupta and his wife Shruti, and to Shikha Joshi and her husband Anand. He was also a proud and affectionate grandfather to Kabir, Arjun, Shraddha, and Advait, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Though he came from a humble family, Subhash persevered through his pursuit of a first-class education and graduated at the top of the first chemical engineering batch from Punjab University Chandigarh in 1962. He earned his master's degree in petroleum from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and went on to establish oil plants across India, Europe, Russia, and the Middle East during his 45-year career at Engineers India Limited, and later, Stone & Webster. Even after stepping down from his role as an engineer, Subhash spent six years training the next generation and passing on his skills before retiring to spend his time with his family. He approached his career with integrity and responsibility, and he carried those same qualities into every part of his life.

He was a man of God all his life, whose discipline in behavior stemmed from his faith. In his middle age, Subhash found spiritual guidance in the teachings of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. He was introduced to Sahaja Yoga Meditation by his children, and he practiced it with deep devotion through the rest of his life. Subhash lived with a strong sense of humility and honesty, and his spiritual nature gave him strength and guided the way he treated others, with kindness, patience, and grace. He was outgoing, social, and a true people person, yet he remained humble in every setting. Those who knew him will remember his warm presence, his gentle manner, and the genuine care he showed for everyone he met.

Subhash never missed an opportunity to take his family on vacation, and he traveled all over the world for work and exploration, instilling a love for traveling in both his children. He emigrated to the United States 10 years ago to spend more time with his grandchildren. In the later years of his life, he discovered a new passion for woodworking, making utensils with his hands that he would give away as gifts to friends and family. Whether through his travels, his craftsmanship, or his conversations with family and friends, he brought energy and warmth to the lives around him.

He will be remembered as a man of integrity and perseverance, someone who met life's challenges with quiet determination and steadfast resolve. Subhash lived with honor and purpose, and his example will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was one of achievement, devotion, and love, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and pride to his family.
