Obituary

Stephen Kucey Obituary Stephen F. Kucey, 69, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Born in Bethlehem on August 15, 1954 he was a son of the late Stephen J. and Frances (Piff) Kucey. Stephen attended Bethlehem Schools and Mercy Special Learning Center, Allentown. As a young boy he participated in the Boy Scouts of America. Stephen had many friends growing up and throughout his adult life. He was a member of St. Joseph's R. C. Church Bethlehem and later in his life became a member of The Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem. At 16 years of age, Stephen started working for the Wood company (Sodexo) at Rathbone Hall, Lehigh University. He worked there continually for over 50 years. He was never out of work until he retired in 2023. It was at Lehigh that Stephen met Kathryn (Kathy) Lindgren. The two became friends and soon started dating. In 2009, during dinner service at Rathbone Hall, Stephen proposed to Kathy among all their friends and co-workers. They were married in 2011 and had their lovely reception at Lehigh. Stephen and Kathy were constant companions who spent much time at Lehigh sporting events. They were devoted Lehigh fans! They loved going to concerts, festivals, parks, family get togethers and their annual trip to the Jersey or Maryland shore. They did much volunteer work together as well. They volunteered at Musikfest and Celtic classic for many years, and helped out in their church and in area nursing homes. They both participated in Special Olympics for many years and got to travel to regional and state competitions. For his years of participation, Stephen received a Pennsylvania State Special Olympic Athlete of the year, and the Bethlehem Special Olympics Athlete Hall of Fame awards. In his later years, he became a coach and mentor to the younger players. He loved his little town of Bethlehem and he gave back so much to his community. Stephen faced many challenges in his life, but he met them head on and overcame them. He was never discouraged. He had a rich, full, happy, contented life and was loved. We should all be as lucky as Stephen. Stephen will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy; sister, Janet Kucey Kovalchick and her husband Andrew of Lower Macungie; father-in-law, Ralph Lindgren; brothers-in-law, David Repnyek, David Lindgren, Tom Lindgren, and Tim Lindgren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Jane (Kucey) Repnyek.
