Robert "Poppy" V. Lopez, 90, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
Born on September 5, 1935, in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Victor and Alice (Nemeth) Lopez. He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine B. (Zych) Lopez, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2023.
A graduate of Liberty High School, Robert proudly served his country in the Korean War in the United States Army. He was a tank commander and was occasionally entrusted with the honor of escorting generals. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life and reflected the sense of duty, honor, and commitment that defined his character. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by UPS as a tractor trailer driver for many years until retiring in 1997. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge and the Racegoers Association and enjoyed time at Atlantic City at the casinos with his wife.
Robert was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church. He found great enjoyment on the golf course and was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to cheering on his beloved Philadelphia teams. Above all, Robert cherished the time he spent with his family, creating lasting memories with those he loved most. He shared a special bond with his great-granddogs, Archie and Toby.
Robert is survived by his loving son, Robert "Bobby" P. Lopez and his wife, Lee Ann; his cherished granddaughter, Alyssa Kathi Amaral and her husband, Christopher; his daughter, Debra Williams; and his granddaughter, Alison Rose Williams.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Glass, and his son-in-law, John D. Williams.
Robert will be remembered for his quiet strength, humble nature, and unwavering devotion to his family. His kindness, integrity, and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
