Richard Oravec Obituary Richard S. Oravec, affectionately known as Dick to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Palenchar) Oravec. His early years in Bethlehem laid the foundation for a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his community. Dick's commitment to service was evident when he honorably served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War, a time that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty and resilience.
After returning from service, Dick learned his trade at Cut Rite on the SouthSide of Bethlehem. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to the catering business, where he and his wife Cecelia operated a successful food truck before taking a leap of faith to own and operate B&M Provisions in Allentown. For over 55 years, Dick poured his heart into his business, becoming a well-respected figure in the community. His ventures also included property development, showcasing his versatility and business acumen.
Dick's influence extended beyond his professional life as a founding member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. His faith and dedication to his church community were cornerstones of his life, guiding him in his actions and relationships with others.
Throughout his life, Dick was a pillar of support for his community. He was an active supporter of the Boys Club and a member of the former Bethlehem Club, where he sponsored many sports talks. His involvement with the Goodfellows Club further demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of those around him.
Dick's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He enjoyed traveling, relishing the opportunity to explore new places and cultures. The beach was a source of joy for Dick, where he could often be found soaking up the sun and perfecting his tan. At home, he took great pride in his homegrown peppers, which were a testament to his nurturing spirit and love for a little spice in life.
Those who knew Dick will remember his great smile, a reflection of the joy and humor he brought to every situation. His presence could light up a room, and his laughter was infectious.
