Obituary

Richard Gensiak Obituary Richard E. Gensiak of Allentown, age 57, died on November 7, 2024. Richard was the son of Eugene Richard Gensiak and Elissa Ann (Limons) Gensiak. His stepfather was Willem Roetman. He is survived by mother Elissa, sister Kara, brother John, sister-in-law Lisa Middlemore, and many devoted friends. Throughout his colorful life, Richard held an eclectic array of interesting jobs. At various times he worked as a security guard, a flower shop delivery driver, and as the sound and light operator for many memorable shows at Pines Dinner Theatre in Allentown. He also took the stage occasionally and was regarded as a talented actor. Additionally, Richard will be remembered by all as an unparalleled supporter of the Lehigh Valley underground music scene. He shared this love as a freelance music journalist for The Morning Call, a DIY show organizer and event promoter, a supporter of local bands, and most famously as a radio host on 91.7 WMUH. As a long-tenured community DJ on Muhlenberg Colleges radio station, Richard hosted a weekly show for nearly 30 years. His program "Gutbucket Esoterica" brought unconventional music to the airwaves, and joy to anyone who tuned in. He was a mentor to countless other DJs and a true institution in the Lehigh Valley. Richard could always be relied on to tell you about a great band youve never heard of and to be a buddy if you found yourself alone at a show. Forever youthful in mind and spirit, Richard exemplified the fact that age is only a number. If there were six noise bands playing at a barn in the middle of nowhere, a rockabilly show in a dive bar, or punks rocking out in a firehall, Rich would be there, and everyone would be glad he was. He will be greatly missed. Service: Funeral Service 6:00PM Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem.
