Obituary

Raymond Hoffeld Obituary Raymond Charles Hoffeld, 76, of Lower Macungie Township, died Saturday, June 15 from complications of amyloidosis and heart failure after a brave battle. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to Richard and Hilda (Ramseyer) Hoffeld, Ray spent his childhood in Galveston, Texas; Berkeley Heights, New Jersey; and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Liberty High and Moravian College with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State. After college Ray followed his father and brother to Bethlehem Steel, where his 30-year desk job in the Credit Division made him yearn for the outdoors. A scholarly consumer of history, he amassed biographies of every U.S. president especially his favorite, Teddy Roosevelt. Ray was best known as a skilled craftsman with an eye for detail. He especially enjoyed machining, nature photography, stone wall building and woodworking. But his real passion was touring the open road by bicycle. An introvert by nature, he loved nothing better than the solitude of riding his recumbent "Avatar 2000" for weeks on end. When he wanted a change of pace he hiked the Appalachian Trail end to end, rafted the Colorado River and circumscribed New Zealand on his bike. He and his wife of 34 years, Adrienne Kinney, loved to hike the national parks including the Grand Canyon rim to rim. Photographing the bears in Alaska was one of Rays most treasured experiences. His quiet nature and cool reserve belied a strong devotion to hearth and home, a soft spot for cats and an abiding fondness for Gary Larsons The Far Side. Best of all, Ray was an equal partner in marriage and a loyal friend in every way. He will be deeply missed. Predeceased by his parents, Ray is survived by his wife Adrienne, numerous cousins, a brother Richard Hoffeld, niece Jan Hariegle, nephews Richard (Ricky) Hoffeld and Paul Resnick, and their respective families. There will be no funeral or calling hours. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Ray's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. Suggested charitable donations in Rays honor include the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, the Amyloidosis Foundation or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
