Michalene Thomas Obituary Michalene M. "Mickey" Thomas, of Greentown and formerly of Bethlehem, passed away at the age of 82 on November 19, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Scranton. Born on June 28, 1942, in Allentown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen (Helinsky) Basso. Mickey lived a life defined by devotion to her family, her unwavering kindness, and her generous spirit.
Mickey's journey through life was shared with her beloved husband of 61 years, William E. Thomas, Sr. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and countless memories. As a homemaker, Mickey poured her heart into raising her children, William Thomas, Jr., and his wife Tammy of Riegelsville, and Christine Wood and her husband Mark of Bethlehem. Her role as a mother was one she treasured deeply, and she extended her nurturing touch beyond her home as a part-time cashier at Schoenens Market and Weis Market in Bethlehem.
Her love story continued through her grandchildren, Hunter and Tanner Smith, Alexa Thomas, Madison, and Samantha Weiss, and her great-granddaughter, Kira. Mickey relished the role of Grammy, cheering on the sidelines of sporting events, and celebrating every milestone with pride and joy. Her sister, Helene Hiatt, and husband Gregory of Los Lunas, NM, also survive her. Mickey was preceded in death by her loving parents and siblings, Rosemary Reinsmith and Donna Thompson.
Mickey's interests were a mirror of her caring and creative soul. She found solace in the quiet moments spent crocheting and reading, and she expressed her artistic side through ceramics. Her kitchen was a place of magic and love, where she took great pride in cooking and baking for those she cherished. Mickey's recipes were more than just instructions for a meal; they were an invitation to gather, to share, and to create memories.
Those who knew Mickey will remember her for her boundless love and selflessness. She was the embodiment of kindness, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her willingness to help anyone in need was a testament to her generous spirit. Mickey's presence was a comforting constant in the lives of her family and friends, and her legacy of love will continue to thrive in their hearts.
