Mary Ann K.
Giles
Nov 1, 1931 — May 27, 2026
Mary Ann K. Giles, 94, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. Born on November 1, 1931, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Messner and the late Mary Stettenbauer.
Mary Ann's first career was as a secretary at PPL Corporation, where she was known for her reliability and expertise. Later in life she was a self-taught dog groomer and built her own successful grooming business. Outside of work, her passions were many and ran deep. She devoted herself to the world of poodles, grooming, breeding, training, and showing them with skill and genuine love for the breed. She was an active member of the Allentown Dog Training Club and the Poodle Club of the Lehigh Valley, communities that reflected both her vast knowledge and commitment. Her gardens and koi and turtle ponds were another source of great joy, and she tended her plants and animals with the same care and attention she gave everything she loved.
More than anything, Mary Ann cherished her family and spending time with them. Being an only child, she always remarked how thankful and proud she was of the beautiful family she created.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Messner; her stepfather, John Pratt; and her mother, Mary Stettenbauer Pratt.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Kathy Stehly and her husband Ed; Jennifer Gifford and her husband Peter; her grandchildren, Glenn, Katie, and Allison; and her great-grandchildren, Owen, Corinne, Melody, and Annabelle.
