Jordan
Basem
Jan 17, 1942 — Sep 27, 2026
Jordan Basem, 84, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 17, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, to the late Samuel and Sylvia Basem. He married Sheila in 1964, and they shared their lives together, filled with love and adventure.
Jordan attended Manhattan School of Music, where he studied saxophone and clarinet. He started his career as a professional musician and continued to enjoy jazz and classical music throughout his life. Jordan received his Bachelor of Science degree from the New York University School of Commerce, and led a successful career in various endeavors. In 1982, he and Sheila started Village Computer Center, which they operated together. As a Rotarian in New Jersey, he received the Paul Harris Award for furthering the friendly relations among people throughout the world and for his service above himself.
An avid nature photographer, Jordan regarded photography as an art. His work reflected a precise attention to detail and a steady focus. He was a member of the Lehigh Valley Photography Club and a former president of the CAMNET Club in New Jersey. He was also past president of the Livingston Camera Club and a trustee of the New Jersey Federation of Photographers, where he was awarded for his individual contributions to the advancement of the art and science of photography in the State of New Jersey. He wanted to share his love of photography with others, and was often invited to serve as a judge for photography competitions.
Jordan brought care and discipline to everything he did, and he was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sheila Basem; his daughters, Gloria Basem and Laurie Jacobs; his son-in-law, Lance Jacobs; his grandchildren, Zachary and Allison Jacobs; and his brother, Stuart Basem.
He will be remembered for his artistry, determination, and his love for his family and friends.
