Obituary

John C. Hagen, Sr., passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on July 2, 1937, in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late John Hagen and Dorothy (Walker) Sigley. His early years in Bethlehem shaped a life filled with love, hard work, and devotion to family.

John's heart found its match in Judy (Harris) Hagen, and together they built a remarkable marriage that spanned over 66 years. Their love story was one of deep respect, unwavering support, and countless cherished memories.

John dedicated much of his career to the Beam Yard at Bethlehem Steel, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement. Beyond his profession, he was a man of many passions. His love for auto racing went beyond the sidelines—he took to the track himself, chasing the thrill of speed and competition. He found tranquility on the water while fishing and expressed his creativity through oil painting, capturing the world as he saw it.

More than anything, John was a people person. With his quick wit, infectious laughter, and larger-than-life personality, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome. He loved to tell stories, crack jokes, and turn any gathering into a memorable occasion. Whether he was sharing a drink with friends, reminiscing about the good old days, or making someone smile, John had a natural ability to bring people together. His home was always filled with laughter, warmth, and the joy of family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his son, John C. Hagen, Jr., and his wife, Ashley; and his daughter, Tana Conahan, and her husband, John. His legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren—Jeremy Hagen, Jennifer Serfass and her husband, Doug, Nathan Derwinski, Matthew Derwinski, John Conahan, and Chloe Conahan—as well as his great-grandchildren, Avery and Jackson. The family also holds close the memory of his grandson, John C. Hagen, III, who predeceased him.
