John Stanley
Bodnar
Mar 9, 1961 — Sep 2, 2026
John Stanley Bodnar, a longtime resident of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. John navigated numerous health challenges over the years, but in the end, he did not lose his battle, as Johnny always won in life.
Born to Michael and Florence in Rahway, NJ, he cultivated a close-knit circle of lifelong friends, each of whom holds a cherished story to tell, some more PG than others. John also excelled in athletics, most notably football, where he "famously" caught the game-winning touchdown in the state championship game to defeat P'burg—a tale John thoroughly enjoyed embellishing with every retelling.
It was in Rahway that John met the love of his life, Donna, as fellow parishioners of the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Their bond blossomed from childhood acquaintances into lifelong partners. Settling in Phillipsburg, John immersed himself in his community, whether bartending at Lafayette and Lehigh, coaching his son Jonathon in Lopat football, or steadfastly attending every theatre performance of his daughter, Amanda- John was always in the crowd.
SURVIVORS: John is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his daughter Amanda (Greg) Pearse; his son, Jonathon; and the ultimate joys of his life, his grandchildren, Goldie and Benny. He is also survived by his beloved pups, his sisters, brother, countless nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends-who were always considered family.
John was a friend of everyone he would meet- and he will be dearly missed, but when you think of John, remember the good times, raise an ice-cold beer, and toast "nasteovya."
SERVICES: A Funeral Service will take place at 4:30 P.M. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. Family will receive friends and relatives from 2 P.M. until 7 P.M. also at the funeral home. John's services have been entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memorial tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
CONTRIBUTIONS: In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor John's memory may consider making a contribution to his family as they navigate the costs associated with his medical expenses.
