Obituary

JoAnne L. (Albright) Hoodmaker entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2026. She was the widow of Lavere (Bud) Hoodmaker who passed away in 2002. Born in Allentown she was the daughter of John and Mary Albright. She graduated from Allentown High School in 1952 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from Moravian College in 1956. She worked as a social worker prior to marriage. It was often said that she had the voice of an angel and she started singing as a very young child.

When only 17 she was privileged to sing with the Ray Anthony big band on Steel Pier in Atlantic City and was a well-known vocalist all her life. She was the singer for the Hanover Township Big band for over 35 years and sang thru out the area at many functions and nursing homes and senior facilities. She was very proud of her Moravian roots and was active in her church Advent Moravian where she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, Children's choir director and was on many committees and boards. She was a past president of the Bethlehem Newcomers Club of the Y.W.C.A and had been a Girl Scout leader for many years. She had been the vocalist of the Bethlehem Church Women's United for over 35 years and was honored to be chosen to be the soloist for Bethlehem's Christmas Advent Breakfast in 2000. JoAnne was well known thru out the area for her Titanic presentations and went to various organizations, schools, colleges, clubs and historical societies. She was a member of the Titanic Historical Society. She also served for many years on the Advisory Council for Northampton County Agency on Aging. In 2007 she was honored to receive the Advent Moravian Church Service Award.

JoAnne was loved by her many friends and had formed a widow's group following the death of her husband and enriched many of their lives. She was someone you could always depend on and was a strong independent lady who worked hard at doing everything to keep her home in order. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was an impeccable dresser and was often teased about being a "fashionista". She loved the shore and held close to her heart the wonderful memories of vacations there with her family. She found peace and solitude watching the ocean and its changing colors. You could always be greeted by JoAnne with a big smile on her face.

She loved cats especially her pet cat Benjamin. In fact, she loved all animals even down to the tiniest chipmunk.

She is survived by daughters, Jacqueline wife of Matthew Zalik of Allentown, Audrey wife of George Wilkinson of Pen Argyl, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. JoAnne was predeceased by grandson Austin Zalik.
