Obituary

Helga Ronberg Obituary Helga (Popilas) Ronberg, 85, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 26, 1939, in the small village of Psary, Poland to Jan and Helena Popilas. Born during World War II, her family faced many struggles, hardships, and separation, all of which attributed to the inwardly strong, selfless, and caring person we all knew and loved. At age 30 she was given a chance to go visit her sister, Marie in Chicago, Il. A sister she had not seen in many years and missed dearly, and she jumped at the opportunity. It was during this visit that she met and fell in love with Arthur Ronberg, who upon learning that she had to return to Poland, quickly asked her to marry him. What was to be just a visit turned into her remaining in the United States, getting married, starting a new family, new life, and eventually gaining her citizenship. Helga and Arthur were happily married for 45 years until his death in May of 2018. Throughout her life, Helga was a faithful Roman Catholic and a devoted parishioner of St. Ursula Catholic Church, Fountain Hill for many years until she moved to Maryland to live with her daughter. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she attended church frequently until she could no longer. She found much solace and strength in her beliefs. Helga's legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her daughter Aliina Sherly and son-in-law Colin of Bel Air, MD and her grandchildren Lydia and Harrison. She is also survived by her sister Marie Kaspareit of Chicago, IL, and Emilia Brohl of Psary, Poland. Helga was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; father, Jan; and mother Helena.
