Gladys D.
Anthony
Feb 19, 1923 — May 25, 2025
Gladys D. (Davies) Anthony, 102, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 19, 1923, she was daughter of the late Evan and Catherine (Jones) Davies.
Gladys was the beloved wife of the late Leonard M. Anthony, with whom she shared over 73 years of marriage until his passing on January 16, 2020. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Leonard M. Anthony and his wife Kirsten, Robert J. Anthony, and Edward D. Anthony and his wife Robin. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marycatherine Anthony and her siblings Elizabeth, Robert, William, Evan, Catherine, and Olwyn.
Before dedicating her life to raising her children, Gladys worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. While on the job, she once took a call from the man who would later become her husband—a moment that marked the beginning of their lifelong love story.
Gladys's family roots ran deep in Slatington, where she grew up walking and sledding through town, knowing most everyone. She always kept up with the goings-on there, holding a fondness for the people and memories of her youth. Her parents had immigrated from Wales, drawn to the area by the slate industry, which was also prominent in North Wales.
Gladys was a member of The Saucon Valley Country Club, Bethlehem Club, and the Silver Creek Club. Her faith was an important aspect of her life; she was a former member of Midway Manor Moravian Church before becoming a member of Advent Moravian Church in Bethlehem.
She also found great joy in participating in Welsh singing groups and her beloved card club, where she formed lasting friendships and shared countless memories. Gladys was proud of her Welsh heritage and often shared stories, songs, and traditions from her upbringing that became woven into the fabric of her family life.
Gladys's warmth, grace, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her generous spirit.
