Frank Nicholas
Diehm
Apr 5, 1936 — Jun 7, 2025
Frank Nicholas Diehm, 89, of Bethlehem, passed away on June 7, 2025. He was the son of the late Catherine and Richard Diehm.
A 1954 graduate of Robesonia High School, Nick earned his degree in Physical Education from Florida Southern College in 1961. He spent 34 years as an educator in the Saucon Valley School District, where he inspired countless students through his physical education classes. As head coach for baseball (1965–1984) and soccer (1965–1981), he led his teams to 6 league titles in baseball and 3 in soccer, including a District XI championship in 1972. In 2012, Nick was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his exceptional contributions to local sports.
Nick was also a passionate musician. As a drummer with the Dave Roper Trio, he performed regularly at the King George Inn in Allentown. One of his most memorable moments came in 1982 when, on short notice, he was asked to fill in for the legendary Ella Fitzgerald's drummer during a concert at Muhlenberg College. With only a few minutes to prepare, Nick took the stage and played alongside Ella, earning praise for his seamless performance, including an impromptu drum solo on "Mack the Knife." Ella herself thanked Nick after the show, calling him a "wonderful drummer." It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that Nick cherished forever.
Nick proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Dottie (Diehm) Lesavoy and Barbara (Carl) Diehm. Nick is survived by his daughter, Stacy Diehm; his brother, James Diehm and his wife, Beth; his nephew, Mark Diehm; his niece, Stephanie Dobroski.
