Elizabeth 'Betsy' Roberts Obituary Elizabeth 'Betsy' Roberts, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Healthcare Center in Moravian Village in Bethlehem, PA. Born on February 2, 1942, in Richmond, VA, Betsy's life was characterized by her warmth, generosity, and the joy she spread to everyone around her.
Betsy spent much of her young life in Richmond, apart from an early year in Brazil. She attended Saint Gertrude High School and was among the first women to graduate from the University of Richmond, Robins School of Business. After graduation, she studied and traveled abroad, including England, where she met her husband, Barnaby.
Betsy devoted many years of service to Chestnut Hill Academy, Casady School, Moravian Academy, and the Episcopal Church. She volunteered with countless other organizations throughout the years, but her most cherished role was as a companion with the Society of Companions of the Holy Cross.
Many activities brought joy to Betsys life. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, gardening, and her particular delight was feeding the humming birds that often visited her garden. She loved spending time in the kitchen cooking for family and friends. Betsy was an incredibly kind and patient Mother and Grandmother. She will be remembered most for her welcoming Southern hospitality and the warmth she showed toward all those she met. Her family will cherish her sense of humor, which remained a source of laughter and light for her family until her last days.
Betsy is survived by her beloved husband, Barnaby, who stood by her side in every chapter of their journey together; her children, Arianne Roberts (Sara) and Amanda Davis (William); her grandson, Adrian Thatcher Davis; her brothers Ernest Mathewson (Herta) and Robert Mathewson (Virginia), and brother-in-law, Henry (Anne) in England. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Aiden Davis, her parents, Theodore and Mary (McNeil) Mathewson, and brother-in-law, Nicholas and his wife, Pauline.
