“Doug” Joseph Douglas
Myers
Jun 1, 1945 — Feb 1, 2025
"Doug" Joseph Douglas Myers, 79, of Breinigsville, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2025.
Born on June 1, 1945, in Lancaster, PA, Doug was the son of the late Joseph and May Louise (Longenecker) Myers. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he later built a distinguished career at PPL, starting as a lineman and retiring in 2010 as Supervisor Bulk Power and Regional Operations. Doug was known for his unwavering dedication to his work, his strong work ethic, and his candid, straightforward manner. He spoke truthfully about what he believed, earning the respect of everyone who knew him.
A passionate advocate for his interests, Doug was an active member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed spending time with his shooting buddies, lunch always following a shooting session. He had a deep love for fitness, competing in numerous triathlons, biathlons, and running races, ranging from 5Ks to marathons. He also enjoyed recreational cycling, both locally and across the U.S. and Europe. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Doug gave back to the community by volunteering as a rider and later as the logistics coordinator for the PA Perimeter Ride for Cancer.
Above all, Doug was a devoted family man. He is survived by his sons, Chris and Greg; his grandchildren, Caleb, Zach, Colby, Brynn, and Carter; his great-granddaughter, Brooke; and his siblings, Dennis, Gary, and Judy Myers. He was predeceased by his brother Michael, and his beloved four-legged companions, Murphy, Pepsi, Molly, Riley, and Ruckus, who brought him both joy and occasional frustration.
Doug had a number of passions that brought him comfort and joy, including Coca-Cola (original), Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and a love for old cars. He was also an avid collector of quilts and redware. Doug's legacy of respect for others, his strong principles, and the lessons he passed down will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
Services will be private, in accordance with the family's wishes. Doug's arrangements have been entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home in Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
