Donald Richards Obituary Donald L. Richards, 88, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family in his home on Friday September 27, 2024. Born in Bethlehem, Don was the son of the late William T. Richards, and his mother, Alma (Blomstrom) Richards. Don's enduring love story with his wife, Barbara (Reinhart) Richards, was one for the ages, as they were looking forward to celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary this December.
Don's journey of personal growth and education was marked by his determination to succeed. He earned his GED while honorably serving in the U.S. Army, a testament to his commitment to both his country and his personal development. His career in law enforcement began as a police officer for the Borough of Catasauqua, after which he served as a Police Patrolman for the Bethlehem Steel. Don retired with distinction as Captain, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and leadership.
Beyond his professional life, Don was a man of faith and fellowship. He was a member of the West Side Moravian Church in Bethlehem and the former H. Stanley Goodwin Masonic Lodge No. 648 in Bethlehem. These associations reflected his belief in community and his desire to contribute to the fabric of his hometown.
Don's interests were as varied as they were passionate. As a former member of the NE Wanderers and the Monocacy Field and Stream Club, he found camaraderie and adventure. An avid outdoorsman, Don relished the tranquility of hunting and the artistry of fly fishing. His expertise in fly fishing was so profound that he shared it through teaching at Northampton Community College, inspiring others with his knowledge and love for the sport.
