Obituary

Deborah Carr Treadwell, a resident of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, died peacefully at home on March 5, 2025, after travelling a long road with breast cancer.

Debbie was born in Rhode Island, on March 24, 1944, the daughter of Louis Brackett and Mary Ann (Housel) Carr. She graduated from Waltham High School, and attended Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. From her days as a hockey cheerleader at Waltham High (megaphone is still in her house) to attending the wedding of her oldest grandchild, Deb's joy in life was her family and close friends. Moving her family over the years from Sherborn, Massachusetts, through Pennsylvania and New Jersey before settling back in Bethlehem, Deb attended more youth hockey games than she could count, enjoyed a good doubles match and long walks with friends, and spent many an evening sitting on the kitchen counter talking, laughing, listening to, and maybe occasionally reprimanding her kids. She volunteered in classrooms, led Girl Scout troops, and as her kids grew older, took pride in being the family communications hub. Her newspaper-clipping scissors were always on hand for filling and sending envelopes of things that reminded her of people she loved. Deb grew up spending summers in a small dirt road community in Falmouth, Massachusetts and instilled a love of the place in her kids and grandkids. For decades, her time there was spent reconnecting with her sister, brothers, families, nieces and nephews. Deb and Barry were married for 60 years. Not long after his high school hockey teammate asked Barry to "take care of his girl" while he went off to college, Barry and Deb married, raised three kids together, and took care of each other through life's ups and downs.

Survivors: Debbie leaves her husband, Barry L. Treadwell of Bethlehem; her son, Barry L. (Linc) Treadwell Jr and his wife Denise of Bethlehem; her son Jeffrey Carr Treadwell and his wife Tiffany of Painted Post, NY; her daughter, Jennifer Treadwell Morrissey and her husband James of Freeport, Maine; her sister, Patricia Ann Carr; her brother, Louis Brackett Carr, Jr.; and her brother Stephen W. Carr and his wife Candy; she also leaves six grandchildren, her "hug-a-bugs," whom she adored and will forever be fiercely proud of.

Services : A private celebration of Debbie's life will be held this summer in her beloved Menauhant, East Falmouth community. Debbie's arrangements are entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be made at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

Memorial Contributions: In support of others coping with the disease she lived with for decades, gifts in Debbie's memory may be made to St. Luke's Cancer Care, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the American Cancer Society.
