Charles F.
Hittinger
Nov 5, 1935 — Apr 19, 2025
Charles F. Hittinger, a cherished patriarch, and respected community member, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 19, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 5, 1935, in Bethlehem, PA, Charles led a life marked by devotion to his family, his faith, and his passions.
A lifelong resident of Bethlehem, Charles was the beloved son of the late Donald Hittinger and Marion Nattress. He was a proud graduate of Liberty High School, where he formed friendships and values that lasted a lifetime. After graduation, Charles dedicated many years of service as a Lab Technician at Lehigh University's Fritz Lab, where his meticulous work and warm camaraderie were greatly valued by his colleagues.
Charles was a life member of the 1st Baptist Church, where he was active in the church community, embodying the spirit of service and fellowship. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through joys and challenges with unwavering grace.
In 1956, Charles married the love of his life, the late Nancy J. Felker, and together they built a family foundation of love and support. He was a devoted father to Judith A. Gensiak and her husband Albert of Bethlehem, and the late Alan C. Hittinger. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Amanda Carver, Cassie McMann, Kevin Gensiak, Jennifer Mertz, and Daniel Hittinger, as well as his great-grandchildren, Yoshi, Skye, Savannah, Siles, and Cora, who will forever cherish the memories and lessons he imparted.
Charles was a loving brother to Wayne Hittinger and his wife Antionette of Lancaster, and he fondly remembered his late sister, Joyce Shortell. His family ties were a source of great pride and joy, and he often shared stories of their shared adventures and milestones.
An avid outdoorsman, Charles found solace and excitement in the beauty of nature. He loved to hunt and fish, often sharing his catch with family and friends, and recounting tales of the one that got away. His passion for bowling kept him active in leagues where his competitive spirit and friendly banter were always in fine form.
Charles's life was a testament to the power of love, community, and faith. His warm smile, hearty laugh, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and dedication that will continue to inspire those who carry his memory in their hearts.
