Obituary

Charles "Chuck" J. Achenzie, Jr., 73, of Bethlehem, PA, died Friday, March 13, 2026 in his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of Deborah "Debbie" M. (Kammetler) Achenzie. Born in Fountain Hill, PA, Chuck was the son of the late Charles J. Achenzie, Sr. and the late Geraldine (Achey) Achenzie.

Chuck spent his childhood in Hellertown where he graduated from Hellertown High School in 1970. He was a proud member of their band and later Easton Chessman and Scarlet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a born trumpet player. After graduation, Chuck attended Bethlehem Business School. Chuck decided to go another route and graduated from the Allentown Police Academy. He was a proud City of Bethlehem Police Officer for 25 years, retiring as a Sergeant. He was the first officer assigned to the mobile substation in the city. He took pride in connecting with the community through the substation. Chuck couldn't stay away from the Bethlehem Community and worked for the City of Bethlehem Water Department for twelve years, before retiring a second time.

Chuck spent the past 14 years since retirement spending time as President of Allentown Dog Training Club. He remains an active member of the Bethlehem Fraternal Order of Police. Chuck was an avid bowler and dart thrower. He was involved in multiple bowling leagues throughout the Lehigh Valley. Most recently, took up darts and spent his Mondays with his team.

Chuck is a forever coach. He coached football at the Bethlehem Steelers where he was the board President, softball and baseball at Northwest Little League in Bethlehem, Liberty High School JV assistant softball coach, and Northampton Athletic Association where he was his granddaughter's coach and daughter's assistant coach. He would light up telling stories of his coaching days. Beyond the championships, he was most proud of the impact he had on his athletes' lives. He loved high school sports, and he cherished Friday nights with his family.

Spending time with family was what brought him the most joy. His 5 grandchildren will miss their Pappy in the bleachers, on the sideline, and in the audience. Chuck was the true definition of a family man. Chuck loved his soul mate, childhood sweetheart, Debbie "Hun". They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year. 56 years together…they loved each other yesterday, love each other still, always have, and always will.
