Obituary

Carol Lee Hunsicker (Smith), 80, of Jim Thorpe, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 20, 1946, in Lehighton, PA, the daughter of the late Nevin Smith and the late Ida (Ahner) Smith.

Carol worked as a floor boss, serving as a supervisor in several local sewing mills. She often reminisced about her younger years and meeting her husband at LaRoses's Skating Rink where they competed on the skate hockey and speed skating teams. Her siblings loved her immensely and always enjoyed her visits. As the light that guides her family, Mom opened her heart and door with a willingness to love others unconditionally and without question making her a wonderful Mother to her children and a Mom to many. Memie demonstrated love and tradition through endless actions of support and guidance. Aunt Carol loved her nieces and nephews beyond measure, often becoming a second Mother to all. She nourished our hearts, minds, and souls with the best food and baked goods. She taught her family resilience and sustainability through gardening, preserving, canning, and butchering. Carol enjoyed spending time at the casino, playing bingo, cards and dominoes, and off-roading in the woods throughout her life. Her competitive nature was second to none.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, John Hunsicker, Sr., a proud generational Veteran of the United States Army, a Sister, Mary Ondush, Brothers Thomas Smith and Gerald Smith, and several step-siblings.

She is survived by her children, John Hunsicker, Jim Hunsicker, Jerry Hunsicker, his Wife, Daneen, Jodi, wife of Dennis Hinger, and her chosen children, Heather, Wife of Steve Holak, and Edwin Rosa. She is also survived by her grandson, Trevor, chosen grandchildren, Ashlyn, Greyson, David, and Maria, and siblings, Barbara Hunsicker and Nevin Smith.

Carol was a beacon of love and she will be remembered fondly by her family and all who knew her.
