Carol
Galanos
Jan 9, 1945 — Jul 26, 2026
Carol Galanos, born January 9, 1945, in Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026 surrounded by her loving family after a life marked by devotion, creativity, faith, and deep love for those closest to her.
Carol was the beloved wife of Constantine (Dino) Galanos, her husband of 60 years, and the cherished mother of Jennifer Kupcho and her husband Matthew Kupcho, and Diane Kargo and her husband Shane Kargo. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Jordan Kupcho, Ashlyn Kupcho, Jake Kargo, and Drew Kargo, and she treasured every moment spent with them as their "Mimi." She is also survived by her nephews and niece, Michael Chiarenza, John Chiarenza, and Melissa Chiarenza. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Chiarenza.
Carol lived a life of service and hard work, bringing care and dedication to every role she held. Her professional journey included work in the Trust Department of a bank in Connecticut, as a childcare provider in New Jersey, and as an entrepreneurial business owner known for her custom doll making and patented designs. She also served as a secretary for several small businesses and schools in New Jersey, and later as an administrative assistant to the Superintendent of Schools in Flemington/Raritan, New Jersey. In each position, she was known for her reliability, kindness, and strong work ethic.
Her generosity extended far beyond her career. Carol gave her time and heart as a Religious Education teacher, a Girl Scout leader, and a volunteer in a coma reawakening program. She also shared her talents as a seamstress, lovingly making dance costumes for recitals and helping others through her skill and patience. Her hands were rarely still, and her gifts reflected both her artistry and her desire to bring joy to others.
Carol had many interests that reflected her thoughtful and creative spirit. She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, and sewing matching outfits for herself, her daughters, and their dolls. She took tap dance classes and appreciated the joy of movement and music. She was also the family's memory keeper, faithfully taking photographs and videos of vacations, family gatherings, grandchildren, and special occasions. She spent countless hours editing those memories into videos with music and pictures, a treasured tradition lovingly known as "The Time Machine."
She loved to travel and embraced the beauty of the world around her. Her journeys took her to Italy, Greece, Cancun, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and the Redwoods, where she created memories that she would later revisit and share with her family. She especially loved family time in Cape Cod, where togetherness and simple pleasures meant the most. One of her greatest joys was capturing the breathtaking Cape Cod sunsets, leaving behind countless photographs that reflected the beauty she found in life's quiet moments.
Carol found great joy in being surrounded by family and in the everyday blessings of life. She loved being "Mimi" to her four grandchildren and delighted in their lives and accomplishments. She was an animal lover who adored her many pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and a rabbit. She was an avid reader, enjoyed writing about family memories, and collected meaningful jewelry from her travels and experiences. She believed life was always a little sweeter with chocolate and that there was never a wrong time for ice cream. Her long hair, often styled in braids, ponytails, or a swept-up bun, was one of her signature features, along with her fancy clips, barrettes, and pins that reflected her graceful and playful style.
Above all, Carol was a woman of faith. A devout Catholic, she held a deep devotion to Mother Mary and the angels, and her faith guided her throughout her life. She was loving, steady, and compassionate, and she leaves behind a legacy of warmth, devotion, and treasured memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
Carol will be remembered for her kindness, her creativity, her devotion to family, and the many ways she made life more beautiful for those around her. Her presence was a gift, and her memory will be cherished always.
