Betty L. McAndrew Obituary Betty L. McAndrew, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 4, 1928, in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Burton and Freida (Koch) Miller. Betty's journey through life was marked by devotion to her family, her church, and her community.
Betty's heart was a wellspring of love that touched everyone she knew. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent J. McAndrew, and together they shared a life full of cherished moments until his passing. Her commitment to family was unwavering, and she faced the sorrow of losing her son Robert McAndrew with the same grace and strength that characterized her entire life. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, William Miller and Grace Tertusek, whose memories she held close to her heart.
Her legacy continues through her son James McAndrew, her daughter Susan E. Racz and her husband Tom and her adored grandchildren Ricky Racz and his wife Glennie, Damon McAndrew, Dawn O'Toole, and Daryl McAndrew. Betty was also the great-grandmother to 7 great-grandchildren.
Betty's professional life was spent serving the Bethlehem Area School District as a custodian, a role she performed with diligence and pride until her retirement. Her work ethic and dedication to the well-being of the students and staff were evident to all who knew her.
A woman of deep faith, Betty was a devoted and faithful member of the former St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bethlehem. She found solace and strength in her faith, which guided her through life's challenges and triumphs. Volunteering at her church was not just an activity for Betty; it was a way of living her beliefs and giving back to the community that she loved so dearly.
Betty's interests were simple yet profound. She found pleasure in walking all over Bethlehem which was an activity that not only kept her physically active but also provided her with time for reflection and appreciation of the City around her. Her role as a caretaker was not confined to her professional life; she extended her nurturing spirit to her family members over the years, always there to offer support, comfort, and a listening ear.
Her love for her grandchildren was unparalleled. Betty's eyes would light up at the mention of their names, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
