Bernice Selma
Fontaine
Jul 24, 1929 — Dec 16, 2025
Bernice Selma Fontaine, a cherished pillar of her community and a beacon of kindness to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at Heritage Courts in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. She was born on July 24, 1929, in New York, NY to the late Benjamin Moskowitz and Nettie (Barron) Moskowitz. Bernice's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the love she cultivated throughout her years.
She attended Liberty High School, where she was known for her academic prowess and her genuine warmth. Her quest for knowledge and her desire to help others led her to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State, a foundation that would underpin her future endeavors.
Professionally, Bernice dedicated her life to serving those around her. She began her career as a compassionate social worker at St. Luke's Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless individuals and families, guiding them through their most challenging times with grace and empathy. At the same time, she was an advocate for civil rights, championing social justice for all. Later, she continued to share her love for learning with continuing studies in Library Science and as a part-time librarian at Muhlenberg University and Lehigh University, enriching the minds of students and fostering a community of curiosity and intellectual growth.
Bernice's life was not only marked by her academic and professional achievements but also by the deep connections she forged with her family and friends. She was the beloved wife of Edwin Fontaine for 47 years, and although he preceded her in death on November 19, 1998, the love and memories they shared remained a source of strength and joy for her. She is survived by her adoring daughter, Bonnie Fontaine of Franklin, VT; her brother, Dr. Herbert Moselle, and his wife Marcia of Plantation, FL; and the memories of her proudly accomplished daughter Sherry Joanne Fontaine, who she lovingly remembered every day.
