Obituary

Aurora "Yoya" Magan, a beacon of love and selflessness, graced this world with her presence on September 9, 1939, in Manila, Philippines, and after a fulfilling journey of 86 years, peacefully departed on October 8, 2025, in Bethlehem, surrounded by her loving family. Her life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and her unwavering dedication to her loved ones.

Yoya was born into a vibrant family in Manila and was the cherished sister to Eli and Nini, and the late Liwanag, Socorro, Tessie, Ramon, and Dr. Larry "Boy." Her parents, Teresa and Cristino who predeceased her, instilled in her the values of love and generosity that she carried throughout her life. Yoya earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of the East in the Philippines—a foundation that guided her throughout her professional life.

For over three decades, Yoya worked diligently as a medical biller in the business office at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, New York, where her meticulous attention to detail and warm, caring nature were deeply appreciated. Upon retiring, she continued to be a shining example of dedication, grace, and compassion for all who knew her.

Family was the cornerstone of Yoya's life. She was the loving mother of Gigi, Loi, and Len, and was preceded in death by her beloved daughters Beth and Lea. She was also the cherished mother-in-law of Joe, Lowell and Elliott, and the adoring grandmother of Rojie, Jiva (deceased), Dr. Jony, Dr. Jam, Rani, Renz, Riley, Jaden, Brier "Bham Bham," Ella, and Khafre "Kham Kham." Yoya was known by her siblings, extended family, and the many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends as someone who found deep joy in simply being surrounded by her loved ones. Her laughter, warmth, and genuine happiness in their presence made every reunion feel like a celebration of togetherness.

Yoya's roots in the Philippines remained a significant part of who she was, and she carried the culture and traditions of her birthplace with pride. Her generosity and kindness reached far beyond her family, touching the lives of countless friends and neighbors.

A professional-level pianist since the age of three, Yoya found deep joy and expression in music, often sharing her gift with those around her. She also loved being pampered, enjoyed trips to the casino, and found relaxation in crocheting. Her cooking brought people together, filling her home with the comforting aroma of family and tradition.

A devout Catholic, Yoya's faith was the guiding light of her life—her quiet strength through every joy and challenges.

Yoya's legacy is one of unconditional love, faith, and devotion. Her life was a beautiful composition—a melody of family, faith, and the joy of giving. She will be remembered as the matriarch who played the chords of her family's hearts with grace and elegance. Aurora "Yoya" Magan's memory will forever be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.
