Antonio
Cruz, Jr.
Mar 5, 1945 — Aug 10, 2026
Antonio Cruz, aka Tony, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 10, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 5, 1945, in Lajas, Puerto Rico, to Antonio and Georgina (Ortiz) Cruz, Tony was one of nine wonderful children. He proudly served more than 20 years in the United States Army as a decorated Vietnam War Veteran and member of the renowned 82nd Airborne Division. His military career took him and his family around the world before they made Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, their home in 1984, where he was an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Lehigh University. Following his military retirement, he worked for Vitarroz and Goya Foods.
Tony was a member of Holy Infancy Church, where he served as a catechist and Eucharistic Minister. He also volunteered with the Zipper Club at St. Luke's Hospital and was a member of the VFW Allentown chapter and the DAV.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 61 years, Monserrate (Patino); his devoted children, Nina and Adolfo Salazar, and Tony Cruz; his cherished grandchildren, Gina and her husband Zachary, Alyse and her husband Brendan, Jacob, James, Elijah, and Anastasia; and his adored great-grandchildren, Giana, Sophia, Arya, Damon, Carson, Hailey, and Rosalina. He is also survived by his sister, Idella Rios; his sisters-in-law, Rosa Cruz and Sandy Pearl; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, some of whom he loved as his own children and grandchildren, and dear friends.
Tony will be remembered for his contagious smile, infectious laughter, quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering courage. He found joy in life's simple pleasures-from spending time with family and friends to his favorite colognes and always dressing to the T, listening to Salsa, Jazz and Motown, hosting family get-togethers, gathering around the domino table, and cheering on his beloved New York Mets.
Tony lived and breathed for his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, strength, and devotion that will continue through the generations. Though our hearts are shattered, we find comfort knowing that his lessons, stories, laughter, smile, and love will remain with us always.
Well done Papa. Rock steady. Your watch is over. Rest in eternal peace. You will never be forgotten and will be forever missed. Airborne!
