Samuel Scheltzer Obituary

Samuel Scheltzer, 83, of Miami, Florida, formerly of Bethlehem, passed away on February 17, 2018, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Sam graduated from Liberty High School, and was a proud graduate of both Moravian College and of Florida Atlantic University in Miami. He proudly served in the US Air Force, stationed primarily at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Sam was a teacher and golf coach at Miami Palmetto Senior High School for over 30 years. In 1967, he was named Florida High School Coach of the Year, and was nominated for National Golf Coach of the Year for District 4 (Southeastern US) in 1976. Sam was also named "Dade County Coach of The Year" five times by The Miami News. Sam greatly enjoyed the game of golf, and hit a rare Hole in One ace during a tournament in 1973. His accomplishments in golf were also read into the United States Congressional Record by the Honorable Congressman Dante Fascell.
Sam enjoyed his retirement, golfing at local country clubs and meeting daily with friends for the Kendall Coffee Club "breakfast meetings." He was blessed to have been called home to his God in Heaven, joining his father and mother, Rev. Harry L. and Lubov Scheltzer.
