Cantelmi Funeral Home

The Cantelmi Family has been in the Lehigh Valley for a better part of a century.  Placido "Pat" Antonio Cantelmi, an Italian immigrant, started his hardware business at 507 Fourth Street on the South Side of Bethlehem in 1922 after having spent a few years working at a nearby paint store.

He and his wife Isabella, had 4 children, Louis, Geraldine and twins Dino and Isabella.  His Son Louis and Grandson Rick continued the tradition at the hardware store.  His other Son, Dino, started the Cantelmi Funeral Home in 1963 at his parents home on 203 E. Packer Avenue in Bethlehem.  In 1964 he moved his Funeral Home to 1311 Broadway in Fountain Hill, where the building has been a Funeral Home since 1937.  Along with his son, Dino, Jr., they continue to earn the trust and respect of families that they serve, one funeral at a time.

Cantelmi-Long Funeral Home

The Long Funeral Home at 500 Linden Street in Bethlehem, (often known by locals as "The White House") was built in 1915 as the personal home of E.J. Mathews, an executive for Bethlehem Steel. The Mathews family entertained many fine guests in their grand Neoclassical Revival home. The richly detailed wood mouldings, elegant stained glass and overall grandeur of this former era are beautifully preserved to this day.

After the death of Mr. Mathews in the 1930's, the house was left in trust to Lehigh University. The University utilized the house as a fraternity house for several years until the early 1940's. Marvin Steyers purchased the property from Lehigh University in 1943, and renovated the building for his funeral home business. The property has continuously served Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley as a family-owned and operated funeral home ever since.

In 1964, Wallace "Wally" Long moved his funeral home business from Oley, PA, and purchased the funeral home from the Steyers family. Wally focused on providing outstanding service and compassion to his clients, and his business prospered. His son, Michael, joined him in the business in 1983, and has continued to provide the unique care and attention to our client families that is the hallmark of our family-run business.
