Our History

Our History

The Cantelmi Family has been in the Lehigh Valley for a better part of a century.  Placido "Pat" Antonio Cantelmi, an Italian immigrant, started his hardware business at 507 Fourth Street on the South Side of Bethlehem in 1922 after having spent a few years working at a nearby paint store.

He and his wife Isabella, had 4 children, Louis, Geraldine and twins Dino and Isabella.  His Son Louis and Grandson Rick continued the tradition at the hardware store.  His other Son, Dino, started the Cantelmi Funeral Home in 1963 at his parents home on 203 E. Packer Avenue in Bethlehem.  In 1964 he moved his Funeral Home to 1311 Broadway in Fountain Hill, where the building has been a Funeral Home since 1937.  Along with his son, Dino, Jr., they continue to earn the trust and respect of families that they serve, one funeral at a time.

  • Dino P.  Cantelmi, Sr.

    Dino P. Cantelmi, Sr., In Loving Memory May 27, 1936 - November 22, 2015

    Dino, Sr. served in the U.S. Army stationed in Ft. Richardson, Alaska from 1954-1955 where he was interested in the graves registration department that got him involved in Funeral Service. He graduated from Lincoln Prep. in Philadelphia in 1956 and later attended Muhlenberg college. He then graduated from the former Eckel's College of Mortuary Science in 1959. He served and worked at Joseph Levine & Sons in Philadelphia and later did his internship with the former Steier's Funeral Home in Bethlehem, before starting his own Funeral Home in Bethlehem in 1963. Dino lived in Fountain Hill above the Funeral Home with his wife, Karen. They have four children, Dino, Lori, Tara and Christopher. They also have 11 grandchildren.

  • Dino P.  Cantelmi

    Dino P. Cantelmi, Owner & Funeral Director

    A 1990 graduate of Northampton Community College, Dino received his certificate in Mortuary Science in 1991. Today, he continues the tradition of Cantelmi Funeral Home in his fathers footsteps. Besides being a licensed funeral director, Dino is a licensed pre-arrangement specialist in the state of Pennsylvania. He resides in Bethlehem along with his wife, Joanna (Villani) and their four children, Bianca, Ethan, Dino, Jr., Isabella and the family dog, Nellie.

  • Michael A. Long

    Michael A. Long, Funeral Director/Supervisor

    A graduate of Juniata College, Michael joined his father at the Long Funeral Home in 1983 after a sales career with NCR Corp. Michael has continued his father's commitment to excellent service and compassion for the families which we serve, and has expertise in arranging a wide variety of unique funeral experiences for families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Michael participates in a number of civic and church-related organizations in the community, including H. Stanley Goodwin Lodge #684 of Free and Accepted Masons, Morning Star Rotary, and the Moravian Archives. Michael greatly enjoys competitive cycling within the Lehigh Valley area. He has served as an elder and other leadership positions at Edgeboro Moravian Church in Bethlehem.

  • Dale  Graffis

    Dale Graffis, Funeral Director, Business Manager

    Dale joined the Long Funeral Home in 2004 after a management career with AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and other major corporations. He graduated from Valparaiso University and DePaul University, as well as Northampton Community College, where he received the faculty's "Outstanding Funeral Student Award" in 2005. He became a licensed funeral director in 2006, and values the opportunity to serve our client families with unique, personalized services. He enjoys playing golf and working on home improvement projects. Dale is a member of the Erie Golf League and of the Goodfellows Club, and he and his family are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem. They enjoy relaxing with their family and friends.

  • Alain  Cooke

    Alain Cooke, Funeral Director, CPC, Family Services Director

    Alain has been a funeral director since 1991. She joined Long Funeral Home in 2008 as a Family Services Director, managing and expanding the funeral Pre-Need planning services and the cemetery monument divisions. She has an extensive knowledge of pre-need planning and funding. She specializes in creating unique solutions to help each family achieve their pre-planning goals.
    Alain graduated with honors from the Northampton Community College Funeral Service program. She is a Board Member of ShareCare Faith in Action, a Bethlehem volunteer organization that provides free services to the elderly and the disabled. She also volunteers at a small cemetery, marking the graves for burial and keeping historical records. She and her husband reside in the Upper Bucks County area. Her many hobbies and interests include: traveling, skiing, scuba diving, desert ATV-ing, kayaking, sewing, gardening, playing with her dogs, and spending time with her family.

  • Justin A. Keiper

    Justin A. Keiper, Funeral Director

    Born and raised in Bethlehem, Justin is a 2013 graduate of Liberty High School. Justin attended Northampton Community College where he earned his associates degree in Funeral Service. While enrolled in the Funeral Service program, he was the President of Sigma Phi Sigma the Funeral Service Education Club, a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, a Louise Moore Pine scholarship recipient and a Wegmans Scholar. Justin received his Pennsylvania Funeral Director’s license as of October 2016. He is a member of the Young Professionals Council of the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Goodfellows Club, Rotary Club of Saucon and a board member of the Fountain Hill Cemetery. Besides being a licensed funeral director, Justin is also a certified crematory operator. In his free time he works as a bartender for Artsquest at various events and festivals throughout the city. He currently resides in Bethlehem.

  • Sandra A. Engler

    Sandra A. Engler, Family Services Coordinator/Aftercare

    Sandy has been with Cantelmi Funeral Home since 2011. She is a current student at DeSales University, Center Valley, where she is working towards receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, with a minor in Psychology. Sandy enjoys spending her free time volunteering as a board member of Fountain Hill Cemetery and St. Paul's Blue Church Cemetery, Coopersburg, as well as, researching local history. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries, Rotary Club of Saucon, The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement, the Phi Theta Kappa-Alpha Keppa Zeta Chapter and the National Organization of Human Services. She currently resides in Fountain Hill with her two rescue cocker spaniels, Joey and Princess.

  • Susan  Schnalzer

    Susan Schnalzer, Administrative Assistant

    Sue's pleasant voice is probably the first voice you will hear when you call us on the phone, and she very capably handles our daily administration activities. Sue has enjoyed working with the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home since 2011, and has over 20 years of experience working in the funeral industry. She has been a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries since 1990.
    Sue is a member of St. Isidore's R.C. Church in Quakertown. Born and raised in Quakertown, she and her husband, David, still reside there today. They have a daughter Lisa and her husband Paul and their son Chase, and a son David and his wife Jillian and their daughter Bridget. Sue enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

    Christopher Cantelmi, Funeral Service Associate

    Born and raised in Fountain Hill, Christopher joined Cantelmi Long Funeral Home in the summer of 2017 after a two decade-long career in the arts and education. A graduate of Northampton Community College (1998, AA), Christopher also holds degrees from Temple University (BA, Summa Cum Laude 2000) and The University of Connecticut (MFA, 2004). He was a president’s scholar at Temple University, and a member of the Golden Key National Honors Society. Christopher makes his home in Hanover Township with his wife Ailene and their children Iris and Dario. When he’s not working funerals, Christopher spends his hours frolicking with his family, running trails, fishing, playing drums and sleeping.

    Until recently retiring, Bob worked for the Borough of Fountain Hill for 28 years. He managed the public works department. He lived in Fountain Hill with his wife of 44 years Gwen (Frey). They have 3 married sons, Bob and his wife Michele, Mike and his wife Colleen and Chris and his wife Natalee. They also has 6 grandchildren.

  • Robert Guerriere

    Robert Guerriere, Funeral Assistant

    Born and raised in Fountain Hill, Robert is a graduate of Fountain Hill High School and Moravian College. He lives in Bethlehem and has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Retired since 2011, Robert was Finance Manager and School Board Secretary at Southern Lehigh School District.

  • Thomas A.  Nemeth

    Thomas A. Nemeth, Funeral Assistant

    A native of Bethlehem, he recently completed his Associates Degree in Mortuary Science from Arapahoe Community College in Colorado. A graduate of Villanova University, Tom divides his time between Bethlehem and New York City where he is a senior executive in a major insurance company. Tom is active in both communities and is a member of The Pennsylvania Society and Saucon Valley Country Club.

  • Ronald F. Koach Jr.

    Ronald F. Koach Jr., Funeral Assistant

    Ronald J. Koach, Jr, aka "Koach" has been at Cantelmi Funeral Home for over 25yrs and Resident Manager for the last 5 yrs.. Ron was former General Manager and Heir of the Former Madden Funeral Home the last of the original Southside funeral homes for over 30 yrs. Ron is the Assistant Director of Catholic Campus Ministry at Lehigh University working for the Diocese of Allentown and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Newman Foundation at Lehigh also Member of the Pastors Advisory Council, Lector, Eucharistic Minister & Cook at St. John Capistrano Church, South Beth. Ron is well known in Bethlehem and active other in various activities in the Community.
