Gary Walker, Sr. Obituary

Gary R. Walker, Sr., 88, passed away on April 23, 2024, while in the care of Holy Family Manor. Born on September 3, 1935, in Bethlehem, Gary's life was one marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his work and community.

Gary was the beloved son of the late Russell and Gertrude (Gerstenberg) Walker. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Nancy Walker, and a loving father to his sons, Gary Walker, Jr. and his wife Rebecca, Russell Walker, and Brian Walker and his wife Rene. He also embraced the role of a caring stepfather to Wendy Eckert and Rick Eckert and his wife Patti. His legacy continues through his five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren who will remember him for his wisdom and gentle guidance. Gary was a supportive brother to Brian Walker and his wife Helen, and he cherished the memory of his late sister, Pat MacWilliams.

Gary's formative years were spent at Liberty High School, where he graduated with the class of 1953. His education laid the foundation for a life of service and achievement. Gary honorably served in the United States Marines, a testament to his patriotism and valor. After his military service, he embarked on a fulfilling career in the Industrial Engineering department of the Bethlehem Steel, where he worked until his retirement.

Beyond his professional life, Gary was deeply involved in his community. He was a lifetime member of the Grover Cleveland Democratic Club, the Heights Athletic Association and the Wanderers, where he forged lasting friendships.
