Merle Getz Obituary
Merle K. Getz, 85, of Bethlehem Township, was surrounded by the love of his family and friends when he peacefully passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. He was the husband of Linda (Nonnemacher) Getz, with whom he shared 33 years of loving marriage.
Born in Wilkes Barre, Merle was the son of the late Merle and Margaret (Jenkins) Getz, and the stepson of the late Stanley Melinsky, Jr. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, and then worked as a Police Officer for the City of Bethlehem for over 36 years. Merle was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 20 for over 50 years, and also served as a state level officer for 16 years. After retiring from the police force, Merle worked as a school bus driver for Bethlehem Area School District, with Brinks Armored Car Service, at the DUI Center, and as a security guard at Bethlehem City Hall. He always enjoyed meeting people and serving them in the best way possible.
Survivors: wife Linda; son James F. Harris of Bethlehem Township; sister Marian Hough and her husband James of Bethlehem. Merle was predeceased by his brother George Getz.
Services: Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday evening, May 29, from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St. Bethlehem, 18018, where friends may also call on Wednesday morning from 9 AM to 10 AM. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday in the Funeral Home, and burial will follow with military honors at Bethlehem Memorial Park Cemetery.
